I have not used my tires in snow yet but I probably wouldn't try due to the size. There too wide to use in the snow(225 50 16) however since I live in NY and the snow isn't Horrendous these would be great in the snow that we do have in a almost any size thinner then what I've got. The ratings in snow at the tire rack are very good. I do have separate Nord Frost II snows which I quite possible will never use.
I have driven my ContiExtreme's in everything but snow sofar and I can't imagine a better, stickier tire. I drove my car through hurricane type weather from NY to FL and these tires were totally awesome in the rain. I am a careful driver but these tires allowed me to drive in exces of 85mph in the rain. My Conti's are currently on an Acura Legend GS which I feel definitely outperforms the Saab; however, I still and will always love my Saabs. These tires will be going on my next Saab when I pick it up in two weeks.
I don't feel you have to have separate tires unless you live in a place were 6"-8" of snow is a daily occurrence.
