Started to take the car apart in preparation for the auto to 5 speed conversion. Several things I found after having the engine on the stand and transmission on the floor.
1. The turbo may have been shot. The impeller dose not budge when I try to spin it with my fingers. the dashpot rod to the waste gate is not connected at all. Where can I find a turbo?
2. I have no use for the auto transmission in the garage. But would like to clean it and drain oil. Is there a drain plug? This SOB is heavy. I could not lift it with two hands even without the torque converter. After separating it from the engine, it is leaking oil from the input shaft because the seal is provided by the torque converter.
3. I broke the enagine rear plate into two while trying to separate the transmission from the engine with a bid flat blade screw driver as a pry bar. Good thing I still have another plate from the old engine on my 94cs n/a. So there is no loss.
4. Whoever changed the oil last time must be on steroid. I had to use an 18" long 1/2" drive breaker bar and a lot of swearing to loosen the 13 mm drain plug. Afterward the drain plug stuck to the 13 mm socket. I had to use a large phillip screw driver and a hammer to separate them by putting the mated pieces on a vise.
5. Does anyone know a good source for the turbo plumbing? These are pipes with banjo bolts on bothe ends. There are pretty rusted.
