Climate control can't control heat level. Sequence of events.
1) heater blower motor quit working, fix was to remove, then patch around one pin on the 4 pin connector to the solid state speed controller. It was burnt to a crisp. This seems not relevant to my trouble, but I made this fix only 2 days before the current problem appeared; so ---maybe-----
2) Everything works fine. Set the temp & drive away in perfect comfort.
3) The outside temp display fails, indicating only "err". I found that a ground squirrel was using the under-hood environment as a safe place to chew walnuts. I suspect this is not relevant, but who knows?
4) About the same time, hard to tell, >>> no heat. I can get heat only by bumping the set temp to one step above 82, which is "HI". That puts the fan on max, so then I need to regulate fan speed manually so I don't over-toast out myself. Setting temp back to a lower temp causes water valve to shut off so the blower blows progressively cooler air (this is Minnesota).
Q1: Is it possible that the outside temp sensor that has failed provides info to the climate control system and is responsible for its unwillingness to moderate the heat?
Q2: What else could should I check that would cause the climate control to set the water valve to either full on or full off?
Q3: The outside temp sensor (down by the intake pipe at front of right fender) is now gone! How can I replace it? Is there a part I can get from Radio Shack that will do the trick, or do I need a Saab part?
