I removed the belt from the AC compressor. True the compressor won't engage anyway, but the belt and pulleys drag on the engine. Removing the belt allows the engine to feel freer and more powerful, at least that was my experience in my '89CDT.
If you do remove the belt, remember to hit ECON on the ACC every time you start the car, or it will idle high.
I did this because my mixer flap failed and I had set it mostly in the hot position but I couldn't achieve truly warm air in the winter with the compressor running.
The next Spring I hooked the belt back up and the compressor worked fine. Not sure if I should have taken any precautions i.e lubing or covering the compressor. Anyway, it worked for me.
Good Luck -Aaron
