AMG,

What about the change-over to reformulated gasoline?

I can't say I noticed a big difference in saabs when i lived in New England (saab paradise for me), but when i bought my subaru, i bought it in the winter and got used to driving it as it was, then sometime during the late spring all of a sudden it ran smoother, i got better gas mileage, and had more power. it was like a new car. i thought, huh, wonder how that happened...

then next fall, it started to run like crap (comparatively), and ran like that all winter, and then picked up nice in the spring, and somewhere during that time i learned what everyone else knew about reformulated gas and confirmed with subaru dealership that reformulated gas does a number on subarus.

only thing that seemed to help was lucas fuel treatment

the difference in performance on winter vs summer gas was maybe 28 vs 32 highway for reform vs regular gas, and 18 vs 24 in-town (and i was always used to my cars running better in cold weather!)

when the idle got a little rough and i loss mileage at the end before i sold it, it was summer time, and i had been getting 40mpg running from ma to ct, that turned into 30 mpg, around town dropped to the low 20's with regular gas.

p.s. my CSE's throttle body was cleaned last year by prior owner, i think along with a new o2, but not sure, i'd have to check records, but it had failed an emission test and got a lot of nice work done on it, including new plugs, but they were bosch so i tossed them. today it started to run rough for a second and i noticed that i let off the ignition the moment it started to catch and that normally i hold the ignition in longer, and i wonder if that had something to do with it, that it caught and came to life when it barely caught and came to life, rather than catching solidly and running smooth.

other thing i did when i bought my CSE that helped, and it sounds like you've done this, is set the ACC to automatically come on to OFF so it doesn't start with compressor engaged which can supposedly, i was told by prior owner, effect fuel mixture and cause uneven idle

why it takes me multiple posts to remember all this info, I don't know.

is your ACC set to econ or off automatically when you start the car??
