Hello everyone...
thank god this didn't happen to me! :)
I bet you were all worried for a second there!
I got a phone call yesterday from my friend who owns a 1992 9000 turbo, with the dreaded TCS system by the way (light on, unfortunately)
and he says a few very bad things just happened to his 9000.
After a 10 hour drive towards the chicago area from here in upstate NY, he parked for the night, and the next day the car wouldnt start.
He called a two service, because he thought he might need a jump.
The jump didn't work, but while the charger was hooked up from the tow, he noticed his voltmeter was shoting 20 volts!
He told the tow guy to unhook the charger, as this freaked him out... and decided to let the car sit another day before thinking of a proper plan of action...
the NEXT day, he tried to jump it again, and it started finally...
so he started off towards his final destination, and at some point shortly after the car started to run hot, and eventually overheat.
He pulled over, shut off the car (which in my opinion he should have done the second the temp gauge went up, but i guess he had to get to the next exit?)... opened the hood, and noticed there was no coolant in the tank.
It seemed as is some of the coolant had leaked from the hose coming out of the top of the radiator on the right and heading towards the engine block... i think he said it was sort of leaking around that connection to the block. It could have just been hoot expanded coolant leaking out after the fact tho... i think...
the major leak, he says, was out of his exhaust!
I'm not exactly sure how he came to this conclusion...
all i know is this...
he has a clean break in his downpipe, in the flex-pipe section, and it's held together with aluminum tape and metal sheets and clamps, pretty cob-job like but he was on his way to engstrom among other places to get a new exhaust anyways...
he said that coolant was flowing/leaking out of the exhause right at this cob-job area of the downpipe.
They drained his oil at a shop, and found NO coolant in the oil at all...
he is at a friends shop out there who will do good work for cheap, and is saab 16 valve knowlegable, but I am just curious myself, as to what could have happened to his car.
Did a seal in the turbo blow and leak coolant into the exhaust?
that's my guess
what do ya'll think?
