Upper engine mount

I was at my indie shop today and was asking him how he goes about replacing the upper motor mount inserts. He mentioned that he uses a 2-piece insert for one of them (I assume the vertical one) as it is easier to put in. A light went on in my head.
I would like to change the upper motor mounts myself but do not have a driveway or garage so want to keep it simple. I do not want to have to remove the vertical bracket.
My original thought was to buy 2 insert from Eeuro for $13 each and the tool for $80. This would require removing both old inserts (the vertical one in place) and pressing in two new inserts (the vertical one in place). I had my doubts as to whether the tool would fit around the vertical bracket while it was still in the car.
Now I am thinking I can buy the horizontal bracket with insert for $44 which is easy to R&R. I can then buy the two-piece split Urethane insert for $30 to use in the vertical bracket. So my question is how hard is it to remove the insert from the vertical bracket with it in the car?
