This morning. And I'm pretty much convinced, either it's all fine, or I don't know what I'm doing...
I'm voting for the latter.
Ok, here's the run-through, for whoever is still with me on this one...
Boot looks fine on cv joint.
If I pull and push on wheel (off ground) I don't get any movement or play.
Sub-frame bolts appeared tight, didn't actually check, but no signs of movement, the dirt/road grime is nicely intact all around subframe showing no signs of movement.
Ball-joint. I put the end of my wheel lug wrench in between control arm and ball joint to see if there was obvious play, and all I could do was move it just a tiny tiny bit. The rubber part of the ball joint seemed ok. Three bolts tight, I can see the pinch bolt, and understand how that works, but don't understand how to use the jack to get the ball joint out, because it looks like ball joint is pressed in from below. What am I jacking up to remove the ball joint?
I don't know if I was testing Ball Joint correctly by the way.
Tie-rod end can be rotated tightly back and forth in it's little cup.
Sway bar link is new, link bushings old, but that appears tight, lower bushing squished, and upper link bushing somewhat squished.
Sway bar bushing at frame mount is worn so that I could shove a screw driver in a little ways. I suppose I could disconnect sway bar from control arm to see if that removes any noises associated with sway bar, but I don't think sway bar is causing my noise, could it?
The wheel itself, when car in park, can rotate back and forward a little bit. 10 degrees maybe in each direction.
Control arm feels tighter now with new bushing.
I'm thinking I should just start replacing parts, huh?
