1995 9K Aero Problem with Warm Starting

Dealer and I are stumped because this problem is intermittent. He already replaced the crank sensor ($350) and that didn't solve it.
When I've been driving the car for 30 minutes or so and stop to run an errand for 20 minutes or so, it won't restart until it has cooled down. Without fail, I just open the hood, wait 10 minutes and it starts. When it's not starting, it turns and starts to catch, but immediately stalls. Or else, once in a while it chugs along at 300RPM or so and pressing the accelerator has no effect.
Once this behavior starts, it is repeatable. That is, if I drive to another errand and go into a store for 20 minutes or so, the exact same thing happens when I come back to the car.
The oddball thing is that the dealer has not been able to get it to happen, nor have I when I'm having the problem and I drive it over there! Needless to say, this is annoying to me and I'm starting to get on the dealer's bad side.
Last suggestion he had was to replace the DI cassette, but I balked at that because it is expensive (right?) and 99% of the time the car runs just fine so I don't think the cassette is at fault. Could it be?
What else could this be?
Thanks.
