Without seeing the car it's impossible to say if it was an oil or coolant leak that caused the problem.
I have seen timing belt tensioners that wasn't tighten enough and let go after awhile. I have seen the rubber gaskets on the plastic T-belt cover get sucket in under the belt and made it skip. I have seen failed pulley bearings and loose cam shaft sprockets.

Ask the dealer to let you see the three idler pulleys that the belt runs over. If any of the three look like the one in picture, that's where the problem lies.
It's a lot of politics, coverups and unknowing dealers in this timing belt issue. It haven't been addressed so much here on the 9000 board since there is very few out there equipped with the V6 engine.
If you do a search for timing belt, sprockets or tensioner on the NG900 and 9-5 board you will see a bigger picture of the problem.

For the NG900 and 9000, Saab have a service bulletin out that states that the whole tensioner kit and belt should be replaced for free, BUT!!! only one time. So if they did that at the 35K service they will not replace it again at 65K. Only the belt gets replaced for free if they have proof that the tensioner kit has been replaced before.

When the new tensioner kit is installed the service interval for belt goes up to 60K.

The 9-5 V6 has the new tensioner and pulleys from factory but now we start to read about failed engines on the 9-5 board too due to that only the belt is replaced for free at the 60K interval.

Read up on the subject as much as possible and you stand a better chance to get some reimbursement.

Good luck

Anders
