The others have had good explainations. I would add this-
Knock will show up as a sound - if it's bad enough to feel it, you've heard it long before. It'll sound like a rattle, most often at low RPM and high load - trying to accelerate up a hill at 2000 rpm. With the Saab knock managment system, highly unlikely you'll hear it - the APC can detect it and adjust for it long before you hear it.
Missing will feel like a slight shudder in the car; the engine note will change from a constant hum to an interrupted one, and the car will feel like it's being held back. In a turbo car, if you feel it when the boost needle goes near the top of the yellow, usually due to the spark plug gap growing too big (age/wear/wrong gap). If you feel it at other speeds, a sign that the DI cassette is on the way out.
It's nice to recognize the symptoms, but I wouldn't go looking for them - it'll drive you nuts (was that knock I just heard? - no just my typing.) Like the difference between being able to identify an elephant and constantly scanning the bushes for them, especially if you live in Nebraska and not Keyna.
