Agree about the Japanese nameplates -
they jus don't take a hit. And if she's
young enough, and likes to drive the Saab
is a safe car - you don't have to wory about
her. I feel ok with my daughter driving my
9kt, but I didn't let her get a license 'till
she was 18. I don't believe that 25 hours of
suppervised driving in intown conditions
(our state's requirements) is anything close to
enough. I basically had her drive me around for
2 years - 100's of hours of practice before
I'd ok her and insure her. I'd take her out
on wet nights for dealing with nighttime glare,
took her to the Walmart parking lot after
6" of snow to let her learn how you lose control of a car
in snow and then how to regain it. Focused on
sound foundation of skills and development of
a good basis for confidence, defensive driving and
increasing her sphere of awareness - getting her to
realize that you can sometimes see trouble coming
from blocks away, etc.
However, good call about the Aero, they will have
an accident, it's just a matter of time.
Confidence and skill before power, eh?
BTW - I always found rear wheel drive easier
to work on that front wheel - more room.
Used to be a hell of a beetle fan -
'62 Baja bug, '67 bug & hatchback, '72
super B, but haven't ever owned a new
generation VW.
