Thanks, Gene. I was able to fix it at "room" temp 32 Posted by TonyJ [Email] (#407) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TonyJ) on Mon, 6 Dec 2004 19:03:04 In Reply to: Re: Temperature to soften fuel line?, Gene N [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 6 Dec 2004 05:11:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
degrees F and snowing outside. I didn't want to run a heater or a heat gun with sparking commutator during this operation. I didn't have to drop the tank; there was enough slack in the fuel filter outlet tube (smaller banjo towards front of car), but I don't think it would work a second time. I used a 5/16 inch brake flare tool to hold the hose and channel lock pliers to help it on. The affected hose just goes above the RF corner of the tank to the steel line that goes forward to the engine. Plan B would be to replace the plastic tube with HP fuel hose clamped at both ends.
I tried a scrap of tubing in boiling water and it made no difference, but hot air at about 400 degrees F softens it without melting.
