with winter driving certainly helps but if you don't have the proper tires, no amount of winter driving skill would save you. The 9K with reasonable tires behaves very well in snow/ice and should do as well as the C900.
If you have good treads on all season tires, then drive carefully and watch the road ahead and traffic around you.
You could test your winter driving skills in snow covered deserted streets and parking lots, just make sure no one is around and you won't hit any parked cars, check for light poles and snowed covered ditches and traffic islands. You just want to know how the car behaves under such situations. Don't try to do figure 8s or stunts that would alert local law enforcement 8-).
