It may be an option on the Tech II as Joe98 says, but I doubt it. The 9000 anti-theft alarm, and most of the 9000 computer-box communications was a generation behind that of the 900 of the same era.

At a minimum, it's worth contacting your dealer and asking them if that is a programming option on the Tech II for your car. If so, it's a relatively simple task of connecting the Tech II up to the connector and running through some menus.

As I said, I don't think that's an option on the 9000 - not from any direct knowledge on my part, but because I know the 9000 system is more primitive. I find it equally annoying - I don't need to know the car is unlocked. On my Jetta, it beeps demurely once when it locks, and that's it. Works fine for me.

One option is to disconnect the alarm horn. This horn is located in the left front fender (wing), but connects up to the anti-theft system located in the right front cabin footwell. No beeps of any kind, locking or unlocking, but also no alarm horn if somebody tries to break into your car. Frankly, I think alarm horns are pretty useless.

For a little more effort but a slicker result, I'm working on putting a relay in series with the alarm horn. When the car locks, a 0.7 second pulse is sent to the door lock actuators. Same for unlock, but different polarity. I figure to put a relay in series with the horn, that would be energized when the doors are unlocking, and wired such as to disconnect the horn during that unlock time. That way the horn would be mute when unlocking, but still work when locking, or if the bad guys come for your car. What I need to find out is if the unlock pulse is long enough to cover the three beeps of the trunk (boot), or if I need an electronic 'pulse stretcher', which would add some complexity.

But definately start with the dealer. If your local dealer claims ignorance, try another. And the systems between the US and UK are slightly different - they use pretty much the same wiring, but the UK systems tend to provide better security.
