But let's not forget that there's a human driving the car! It's good to be prepared for mechanical emergencies, but something you should never overlook is medical emergencies. Especially on a long road trip, it is very important to have a proper first-aid kit. Triangular bandages, sterile dressings, tweezers, medical tape, and antiseptic (iodine is best) are good things to have in a kit. Also, don't forget to put at least a few pairs of latex gloves in there, in case you have to use your kit on someone. A pocket mask or face shield (for CPR) is a good idea too.
I carry a similar kit in my 9000, and thankfully I've never had to use it. But hey, it's about $5 worth of supplies, and it could save someone's life some day. Personally, I think it's worth it.
Also, what about pressurized puncture sealant? I carry a can in my trunk, just in case I'm out somewhere I'm unable to change a tyre...
