What have other people's experiences with Goldwing been like? I am not too pleased.
Some of you might recall that my dashboard was broken in a stereo theft some time ago. I spent a few weeks trying to find a local source for a good used dash, and was unsuccessful. I thought Goldwing had a pretty good reputation, so I figured they'd be the best choice.
I got the first dash 3 days after ordering and it was beautiful. It looked nearly brand new...until I noticed cracks in the lower part that surrounds the 'cargo pocket' that sits in front of the gear shift. It was packed extremely poorly (read thrown in a empty box) and UPS had, in their proud tradition, smashed in one side of the box. It was pretty obvious that the poor packaging was to blame for the cracks in the dash.
So I call Goldwing and tell them what happened. They say they'll send out another. 2 weeks later (today) I receive the 2nd dash. It was packed only slightly better than the first (tougher box and dash in a plastic bag). Luckily, it was not damaged in shipping. This one's not as nice as the first one, but overall about what I expected aside from two major problems. First, there's a big chip in the corner of the trip computer surround that's down to the wood. Looks like someone tried to pry out the computer. Second, it has that ridiculous "audio system by harman/kardon" badge stuck on it, and I don't think it will come off without damaging the epoxy coat.
So I have a dilemma. I don't want to keep this dash. It certainly isn't in 'excellent' condition as Goldwing claimed. But I also really want my dash back. And judging from my current track record with them, there's no guarantee that the next one I get will be as good as this one, let alone better. This is exactly the reason why I didn't want to get the dash mail order to begin with.
Is this typical of Goldwing?
