seems to be a never ending story with my 'new' saab, anyway the hose came off, fortunately i had been watching the temp guage because i'm trying to tell when the fan comes on. i watched it go up from 9 pm to 10 pm then got worried as it approached the red zone, the check fluid light came on and the temp started to hit red, turned off car.
steam
opened hood, put hose back on.
the neck on the radiator is too short, imo, and whoever had installed the hose didn't have the clamp well on what little of a neck there is. my friend had been wiggling the hose today when i was showing him oil leak, thought that engine vibration was moving the stiff hose leading to my slight crack in rad by the upper hose. apparently that was enough to loosen the hose on the rad neck so stop light vibe and pressure caused it to pop off.
anyway, i put the hose back on, well, checked temp which was low, and proceeded to drive the next block to the advance auto parts which happened to be down the street, but the temp started to rise quickly and had to shut off car again when it hit red. not enough fluid.
everything fine now, but two things:
what is up with the 1/2" neck on the radiator with no lip to help hold on rad hose/clamp?
was that brief second or two when it hit the red line enough to do any damage??
