I've had my JT for 4 years and it never leaked. Mine was configured so that the cat' wasn't located in the stock position, that is it wasn't under the engine. However, in order to configure it in this manner, the support bracket that attaches the cat' to the back of the engine, was instead attached to a bracket welded at the front of the flex section, like the picture below. This does one, maybe two, things. Most importantly, it fixes the downpipe at two points on the engine: at the turbo and at the back of the engine. This is important if one really likes their turbo - that's why the engineers at Saab included this design - otherwise, one would have a very long moment arm hanging off the end of their turbo. If someone were to accidentally apply a force, in the direction of the front of the car, to the tail-pipe, guess which $1200 part will suffer? Maybe, that bracket on my JT has a secondary function - attenuating any mechanical movement or vibration on the flex section. How else does one explain why mine has never leaked? Does your JT have such a bracket? If not, that may be your problem and you should consider yourself lucky that nothing more serious has occured. Replacing that flex section shouldn't be a problem for any decent muffler shop.
