Soldering. Want to learn.

In the thread below is a discussion of replacing light bulbs by soldering in new ones. A task I've lucked out of on my two 9Ks is not having to resolder the headlight relay.
My day is coming. What advice do you pros have on doing a clean job of soldering small jobs? What to you use to wick up old solder? I've got a 'hobby burner' from Harbor Freight. It has a number of tips, including one I use for soldering that is about the size of a pencil lead. It seems to do the job, but I have not done any delicate work.
Is there a good source of info on learning techniques. Anyone willing to advise on techniques?
I've soldered copper pipes with a propane torch. The technique there is to heat the pipe and let the solder flow. Is this done with electronics? Seems too delicate.
Any suggestions appreciated.
