shopping all the local hardware and auto stores for a tool like the official SAAB tool for this job, and came up empty handed. Almost bought a flaring tool, but they wanted $50US for it and it didn't look like it would be as perfect as the real deal. So I thought I'd come home and try slipping it on by heating up the tubing. Well, to start, the new valve body is bigger than the old one! How's that supposed to fit into the pipe?? Hunted around the garage and came up with a section of tubing that fit around the fuel line, and a hose clamp I could tighten down; my reasoning was I could establish a collar to clamp on and use something to push the connector in. Out came the channel lock pliers and the Vaseline, but I couldn't get straight pressure to drive it in even after heating up water in the tea kettle and soaking the fuel line in it.
So my bottom line is that I don't have the #%*&! connector on the fuel line yet, and am still trying to figure out what to do. (Sorry for the long post, everyone.) Can I get an adapter and adapt to a slightly larger line? Should I get the official tool? Tomorrow's another day...
