I've noticed. Both the 91 and 92 were similar except the 92 has TCS and the 91 does not. Both of mine were 5 speeds and drive trains are very different. The 91/92 are geared much lower where as the later models run taller gears- The 91/92 were not "trionic" and even in the high pressure trim used a garrett t-25 turbo whereas CSE & Aero's in 5spd get a TD04 turbo. Aero suspesion is lower and stiffer, but all other late models will be comparable to the 91/92. You can upgrade your 92 rather easily with an EPROM chip. I got mine from Swedish Dynamics and it was great. Hp goes up to about 240-250 and Torque is somewhere around 280lb ft with no other mods. That smaller turbo (quick spool up) and lower gears made my 91 one of the quickest saabs I've owned-A great sleeper. Much faster than my aero (until I get my new ECU). I believe the automatic transmission are pretty much the same, as are the turbos, but I'm not for sure, therefore differences in performance between old auto and new auto would not be that significant.
