There are two sensors. The temp gauge sensor is in the end of the head casting, just under the big DI connector. The ECU sensor is in the intake manifold casting, between intake runners #2 and #3. This is the one that controls the cold enrichment. If the wiring is open, the Trionic will see an engine temp of 26 degrees C (I think). I trust that you get the lambda code for not being able to adjust lean enough (wrong fuelling map selected because of the detected low engine temp). The fuelling adaption can only compensate 25% either way.
Even though you didn't report a code for intake air temperature, it's worth your while to check the sensor and its wiring. If the output has crept a bit off specs it might give you the same symptoms. Also if the wiring is open, Trionic will select an intake temp of 8 degrees C, which will give you a very rich fuelling on a hot day.
Also check the hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
Br,
Tapani
PS Just a thought... if the engine doesn't idle at all..... maybe you mixed the wires for the engine temp (ECU) sensor and the idle control motor... Don't know if the connectors are truly similar but they do look that way... and are in the same area.... smile. Check the color codes.
