I have measured some brake rotors lately to see the difference in thickness compared to warpage.

The warpage is easy for me to check because I just touch the cutting bit to the highest point on each side and stop the lathe. When I study the high point on each side it is opposite each other, except the few times the rotor is double warped but even those times you can see a pattern of high points opposite each other but less clearly.

I measured the thickness on 4 points around the rotor of the worst ones and detected a negliable amount of thickness difference (about 0.002-0.005mm). The warpage on those rotors were around 0.20-0.50mm.

One thing that is extremly important in this is to clean the inner hub surface of all old rust and grime.
I see many rotors that has been resurfaced ones before by a sloppy technician that didn't clean the surface and he actually created a warped rotor when machining it due to particles in between the lathe adapters and rotor.

I don't doubt that pad material transfer "might" happen but I don't think it is as big as Stoptech ponted out in their article, especially on a regular driven car. Racecars might have a whole different scenario of problems due to extreme heat buildup.

I'm going to check some of the rotors that have a vibration syndrome but seems to be almost flat when put up in a lathe to see if I can notice a thickness difference.
