I am not sure about the clicking. I have never checked for it in my 1998 CSE but I do remember a similar click with my 1985 900T. The last I heard it was still going strong at 290,000 miles. The 9000 manual says you should not have to change the fluid but my favorite Saab mechanic says every 60,000 miles. You should at least check its level. Be sure to use the Saab synthetic manual transmission fluid. It should be red when new and if its brown its definitly due to be changed. The plug on the side of the transmission that determines how full it should be is not easy to get at and takes a large allen key. If it has not been taken out before you will need a punch and hammer to loosen it.
