That is the anti-frost switch of the airco system. it acts just like the termostat of a refrigerator. In fact, you could even use a generic fridge termo.
The " iron wire" is a thermocoupler that sits in the evaporator of the airco just beneath it. It prevents the airco from freezing up. Under a certain temperature it opens and interrupts the power from your ACC unit to the A/C relay.
Don't break the "wire" . I did this once and it was filled with gas. It was hollow. rendered it useless.
At the underside there might be a hole through which you can adjust the on/off threshold. can be useful, as these tend to shift over time. AFAIK not all model yeare do have the same switch, though.
This is the main device that makes your compressor ' cycle' on and off.
