The 9000 never really became GMified - the only exception would be the V6 engine. The 9000 V6 was not a success - if you find one running, don't buy it.
Traction Control (TCS) was available from '92 to '95 on 4-cylinder cars. In general, people try to avoid it. It tended to be standard on the Turbo models (not always), and was an option on all models. It was essentially a drive-by-wire system, and had reliability problems. Most folks have had no problem, some folks have had some problems, and a few folks have had "push it into the river!" problems. With a good set of snow tires, I don't believe that the car needs it, and if possible, is better to get one without.
There was no LSD available.
The 9000 4-cylinder engine is the same engine as in the 900, and very much the 'Saab' engine. The 2.3l is a direct outgrowth of the 2.0 liter, which dates back to the early 70's. Nice engine. The automatic in the 9000 is a ZF - not the strongest box in the bunch, but good for about 100K miles. The manual is Saab-built.
