This goes back a ways. I bought a 900 new in 1986. I was plagued with annoying problems the first year I owned it. Almost all the problems were due to mistakes made during assembly not design. For example, the first day I had the car an axle pulled out of transaxle because of a missing circle clip . I was 80 miles from a Saab dealer and 6 miles from home. A month later the support for either an idler pulley or power steering pump collapsed because a loose bolt fell out. The only way to replace the bolt was to pull the engine. Two months later the head gasket went. My daughter had similar problems with her new 1990 900. Once the initial things were taken care of, fortunately under warranty, both cars were relatively trouble free. The experience prejudiced me against buying new Saabs. Since then family has had very good luck in buying pre-debugged Saabs, one 900T, two 9000CSEs, and one 9-5 lpt. In addition, this week my son bought a used 9-5 Aero.
