I'm a dealer and the book most dealers use is the "Black Book" which is based on an average of what a car brings at auctions all over the country. Average wholesale is $3,325, with clean wholesale being $4,850. You add roughly $1,500 to $2,000 to get a retail asking price. I'd think around 7K would be a reasonable max price for the car considering a known history and the fact it was maintained by the dealer. Do a search on Auto Trader and you'll find a lot of them (typically with more miles) for a lot less than that. Check Saabnet too. Nine or ten K will put you into a nice '99 9-5 with the same or fewer miles. You need to educate the seller on this one, so print out this information and share it with him. It sounds like a real nice car though--you just have to buy it for the right price.
