It hardly consumes any oil, maybe half a quart in 3k miles at most. I was told to use the heavy weight oil in old engines. That maybe bad advice. Thought I could easily clean it out by idling the engine. The miss is mild but a definate occasional miss. However, the engine runs smoothly most of the time. Guess I'll have to lift the valve cover. Didn't want to get into doing too much major work.
Could this be a related issue? The only oil loss appears to be some blow out at the top of the oil filler tube which runs down the back of the engine. The 'Y' shaped tube at the rear of the valve cover, transmission side, has substantial air flow coming out of it when I pull the rubber hose to check the flow.
Is this supposed to be the PCV valve? It is just a hollow Y shaped tube, no valve. Is this large amount of air flow out of it normal? Could the strong air flow indicate the cause of the valve noise?
Thanks for your help.
