Most likely the problem is inside the wiper motor. There are two mechanisms in there that can go south. The first is the swipe/parking mechanism. The motor gets power all the time (ignition on), and a signal to swipe. When it gets the signal to swipe, it'll run a bit and should park. It uses a gear and cam mechanism that opens and closes some contacts inside. If the gears bind up or the contacts get dirty, it won't run the full program.

The other is a protection circuit. There is a bit of resistance material, looking like a small square of shiny plastic between two contacts. The motor current goes through this. If the motor current is too high, it heats up and increases in resistance, which drops the current flow. If there isn't enough current flow, the motor won't run. Even when it cools down, it doesn't seem to work well.

The fact that the inside of the motor has gears and electrical contacts, and is filled with grease, doesn't make it any easier. I haven't had any luck with pulling motors apart and fixing them. Others have. But the problem is most likely the motor.

You may find that the wiper isn't in the parked position, but a day later, it has moved. That's because the wiper is still trying to get there, just moving VERY slowly.
