I would not have a problem with used pads if they were good quality to begin with.
Pads can also become glazed from overheating. You can remove the surface layer with sandpaper.
Also if the rotors on the car these came from were scored or groved the pads would have taken this contour and only a small amount of the pad would be in contact with your rotors.
If you are going to sand them put the sandpaper on a flat surface and run the pad over the sandpaper so you get a flat surface on the pads.
If you think you may have contaminated the rotors clean them with brake cleaner.
