Seeing as how I also have a 1994 CS (less miles), I was curious. On kbb.com the retail value of your car is listed at slightly over $4000, whereas on edmunds.com it is about $1500, which includes a $500+ deduction for high miles. Trade-in and private party values are naturally lower. You are not able to buy cars for trade-in prices, so those prices are not relevant, however the inurance company might be quoting private party prices. In any case, based on their record so far, they are trying to lowball you. Again, be sure to ask for all the fees that go with changing cars, i.e. sales tax, plate/sticker transfer, title fees, etc., which will add up to hundreds of dollars.
I do not know about insurance regulations in New Jersey, so I really can't comment on the 60% offer, but it sounds bogus to me, especially after the other party was charged with an offense and yours was dropped. Is this the normal way that things are done in NJ?
