you have an alternative solution that you could use- It's fairly easy to put a switch and an inline power resistor right at the fuse, so you can turn off the fan and run it at medium speed rather than full blast.
I used two 1 ohm, 50W power resistors wired in parallel (1/2 ohm effective resistance) with a switch and separate fuse to control the fan, which is working fine. Resistors were just a few bucks from Mouser, Dale ceramic wirewounds, with screw lug terminals.
Naturally, uou don't have the continuous and automatic control of the fan speed this way, but like I said, it depends on the level of poverty and with your willingness to live without the luxury of automation. ;-)
