At a minimum, a vacuum leak or hose issue Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: BOOST PROBLEMS.....I think, Justin Bates, Tue, 1 Mar 2005 20:22:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Atmospheric pressure shows up as the gap between the white and yellow band on the boost gauge. And engine at idle is operating at vacuum, so the gauge should be in the white. So first off, the hose from the boost gauge is open to the air, and not connected to the intake manifold where it should be.
Which brings up the question as to where that hose is going. I haven't followed the stuff you've been going through/doing with your car. But if that hose is off, you've got a vacuum leak. I did see that you adjusted the AMM - you'll need to do that again after you fix what is probably a big vacuum leak. It would also explain why the car doesn't run well - there is lots of air coming in that the AMM doesn't see, so it doesn't give you extra fuel.
There is a thin vacuum line coming from the throttle body, that hits a little plastic "T", with one hose going off to the boost gauge - that hose goes through the firewall. For the life of me, I can't remember if the third leg of the "T" goes to the hooter valve or the APC solenoid.
The hose may have died on the way to the boost gauge, or it could have come off right at the throttle body. But look for hoses dangling, and nipples that look like they're missing a hose.
