Yes but not all the time Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Addl. diagnosis: Do DIs buzz?, NYSaab, Fri, 4 Mar 2005 06:35:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The DI will buzz a bit during start and sometimes for a second or so after shutoff (cleaning cycle). But they normally don't buzz.
A resonance - something vibrating - would probably be only at certain engine speeds. The first thing I'd do is look at the serpentine belt - make sure it's tracking straight in the middle of the tensioner idler pulley. If it's tracking wrong, it could be rubbing on the bracket.
The other thing coming to mind is airflow. Air flowing through a hose is causing the sound. Make sure that the one-way valve from the valve cover to the intake is still one-way - I've seen those valves disintegrate. Move hoses around.
To help locate the sound, get a foot or two of hose - 1" heater hose, or a piece of garden hose. Hold one end to your ear, and move the other end around the engine compartment. It's a great way to localize a sound. High frequency sounds especially can be a problem to locate, because they bounce around a lot.
