after a brief warming period. The problem is that if your engine has a lot of carbon build up or fouled plugs from running too rich during normal operation it will run like garbage at start up as well.

If you just got this car, I would reccomend what I always do with a new car (unless you know the PO just did the same thing).

New plugs
New filters (oil, air, fuel)
New vac hoses all around
if higher than 60K miles a new O2 sensor

THen run some techron through the system or seafoam to clean up the fuel injectors and valves. If you haven't used seafoam before, it is a pretty powerful detergent. I used some in my BMW by dipping one of the vac lines into the liquid to get it right into the intake manifold. It generates an impressive cloud of smoke from the exhaust, but it works wonders for cleaning up carbon inside the engine.

One last thing. Was the car sitting for a long time before you got her? Is the gas fresh? Hopefully if you have already done these you don't take offense. Since you checked compression I assume that you are a pretty competent DIY. I always eliminate the normal wear items before digging deep. The one thing we know is that you are running too rich. That is usually the O2 sensor or fuel pressure regulator. But it is kinda hard for a pressure regulator to force more fuel through a fixed orfice in the fuel injection if the computer is telling the injectors how long to stay open. Somewhere your computer is telling the injectors to meter too much fuel and to me the first suspect is the O2 sensor.
