Try 'bolt-out'?

Hi Ben,
Sears had Bolt-Out (a socket that progressively tightens rounded nuts) on sale for $10. I haven't used it yet. But seems like this may work for you, because it sounds like you can't budge the bolt head, partially because vice grip deformed it (Slipping on the head), yet vice grip does not provide enough lever arm. Sears normally has the Bolt-out for $20 for set of 5 or 6 different size. Put it on a 21 inch long breaker bar (You're gonna have to jack up the car a bit higher) and then yank on it. (You probably broke loose the axle nut easier because of longer lever arm with the 3/4 inch drive.)
If this doesn't work, you might try breaking off the head of the bolt with a Dremel tool. (Breaking of the bolt head removes the tightening force (friction)). Then drill a hole into the broken bolt and then use an 'easy out' (I got mine from Autozone for about $15) to remove the rest of the bolt.
Good luck...
James from Michigan...
