Bearing part numbers. Posted by Gene N [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Bosch alternator bearings, techlectic, Mon, 14 Mar 2005 22:44:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The bearing on the pulley side is a 6303 bearing (17mm ID, 47mm OD, 14mm width) and the bearing on the other end is a 6201 (12mm ID, 32mm OD, 10mm width). These are generic numbers for standard metric sized bearings. When you buy them, the part numbers will have different prefixes depending on the manufacturer, and some will have postfixes like SS for double steel shielded and RS for rubber sealed. I would use the rubber sealed (Buna-N, actually) ones.
One problem is that the bearings don't just slide off the rotor, you may have to press them out. You should also put new slip rings on, if you can find them. The bearings alone are cheap, $10-$15 for the large one and $5-$10 for the small one, but there is the hassle factor. I had my alternator apart, and when I couldn't get the bearings off the shaft easily, I through in the towel. I got a rebuilt alternator for $125. It was going to be $25 for the bearings, $25 to get a shop to press the new ones on, and $38 for a new voltage regulator and brush pack. That made for a total of $88, and with that, no warrantee.
