When cruise control is used on a TCS equiped car it is running on a function program built into the ETS cpu and requires no other components. It allows the set point speed to be adjusted up and down in 1 MPH steps. When cruise control is used the the accelertor pedal funtions are not being used(pedal potenttoimeter and safety cut-out switch). Not knowing the program code,i don't know how this program operates.
What i have noticed on my cars(turbo automatic trans)with TCS and operating on cruise control, yes indeed i tend to get a higher incidence of being dropped into limphome mode at various times-than when not in cruise control.I have never been able to find a cause as to why.And doing a restart cures the problem.
I feel it's because the throttle body potential might have a glitch in its resistance values that the ETS is finding because the program code is running under tighter control values because the dynamic operating accelerator pedal values are not being used, and a fixed value is.
I feel its a saftey/control issue built into the program code, it is better to drop into limphome mode than to have a control issue problem.
It's a know problem that the early throttle body potentiometers had a wear problem and a redesigned potentiometer was used in 1993.Along with the change to gold plated terminals in 1994 to address the terminal corrosion and resistance values.I am still running the originals early design TB's,that i have:disassembled, cleaned, lube and resealed to better than new condition.I have had no TCS system problems that i have not been able to fix,but you must use the proper diagnosistic tools and procedures.I also have a manual Saab no longer prints, the training /service for the traction control system part # 02 15 707 dated 9/91. It the bible for the early system.
