When my second girl entered the family half a year ago I had figured the Maxi-Cosi seat would fit nicely on the back seat on the passenger side. It wouldn't because fully extended the seat belt was too short. So now my little girl is riding in the front seat, which seat belt is just long enough when the seat is at maximum height and as far back as possible, and my big girl (in other words my girlfriend and mother of the family)rides in the back behind me. I disabled the airbag sensors so the airbag won't do nasty things in case of a collission.
The moral of the story: it is quite possible that your backseat belt is only fully extended the moment it won't stretch any further and nothing is wrong with it.
