Yes, you should either disconnect the battery (which will also lose any preset radio stations) or remove the fuse for Engine Management Systems (or ECU, I forget what it's labeled as). This should be done for at least 2 hours to completely de-energize the ECU and erase its memory.
Then you will need to maintain max boost for 5 seconds at an rpm range of 2750 - 3200 for an auto (I forget the range for a stick). Best done on a long straight portion of the roadway going up a large hill. This will quickly adapt the ECU. You could also let the ECU adapt on its own as you drive, though it can take up to 2 weeks to do so.
Base boost should be set to 5 psi or .47 bar for a fpt CSE or auto Aero (Garrett T25 turbo). I don't know the correct setting for a stick Aero or stick '98 CSE (Mitsubishi TD04 turbo). Search this board on how to adjust this parameter.
Max boost for a T25 turbo is approx. 12 psi. It's approx. 16 psi for a TD04. Max boost is not adjustable (ie.: going to a higher max boost) without having the ECU re-mapped.
