certainly it's not an economical car. I'm satisfied with 24 or 25 mpg. On long trips even cruising motorways at about 80 I get up to 30 mpg, but all that's with bigger Imperial gallons, which you know all about. In town I'm lucky to get 18 mpg.
In the 1993 brochure I have, the following "official" figures are offered for a 2.3 automatic, one again for Imperial gallons:
Automatic: Urban 18.8, 56 mph 39.8, 75 mph 31.7.
Manual: Urban 22.4, 56 mph 45.6, 75 mph 34.9.
So I'm not that far out of spec. Maybe my 1997 car should be doing better. But I do like to accelerate and press on somewhat, so if there's a problem it probably stems from my right foot.
I'll be taking the "new" car for a proper check over by a guy nearby who has an excellent diagnostic setup, but the plugs look fine and I'll be surprised if he can do very much for me.
A litre of Optimax now costs about £0.88, so a proper 8-pint gallon is say £4 or almost $8...
