born with an automatic? Believe me, I am not complaining. I got 168K miles out of this automatic transmission...good my any standard.
Here is the situation: Drives great in warm weather, but the problem is that it's a winter car. It only slips between first and second gear, and only when the temp gets below 20 degrees. When the car is warmed up, it doesn't slip at all. So two questions:
1. will replacement of the transmission fluid improve this problem at all, or has my autobox finally given up? (transmissions are really the only thing I dont understand about this car)
2. is it possible to easily retrofit a manual into this car, or is it more hassle than benefit?
I have had this car for 10 years and can't bring myself to part with it. Other than the transmission slipping and a cracked windshield the car looks and drives great. Even for the cost of a transmission, I think it is worth doing. I have to replace my cv boots very soon. The way I see it, once I get those CVs out, I am almost 1/2 way to having the transmission unhooked...I am not one that likes to repeat labor so I am thinking that if I need to replace my transmission, now is the time.
Thanks for your tips.
