My own experince is Don't Do More Than 4" and very slow at that.I lost a Saab in a puddle.I was on a state road where there was no way around the puddle. The puddle was from a short intense thunder burst(25 min). The puddle was from leaf debris, and plastic bags that washed over a storm drain. It was 5-6" in depth on my side of the road.Cars were passing thur it in both directions.I was not 1/2 way thur when a trailer truck in the opposite direction came blasting thur, creating a wave that broke on my hood. The engine stalled and the car was washed into the deep curb area and was floating.I could not open the door or the inside of the would have flooded-had to go out the drivers window and push the car which was floating now across the puddle. When out of the drink, and on dry ground, pulled the spark plugs out-turned engine over and water came out of the spark plug holes.Put plugs in after drying them off.Engine started but ran rough. The damage was done,1 bent connecting rod.
Morall of story i don't cross puddles any more,i back up and go around. No more Saabmarine's or Saab stories for me.
The End.
