I assume that the engine speed is increasing, but the car doesn't speed up. So the tachometer can go way up without trouble.
The bad news is that one or more internal clutches in the transmission are probably shot. Not for sure, but likely. When you replaced the filter, what was sticking to the magnet on the bottom of the filter cover? A fine black shiny sludge is normal. If you saw pieces of metal that you could actually pick out, that is a very bad sign.
I assume you didn't buy the car this way, and that it was driving fine for a while. When it failed, did it fail suddenly? Namely, you were stopped at a light, and when you hit the gas, it just didn't go? Or were the shifts just a little strange for a few miles before it went?
If the engine doesn't rev when in a forward gear, it is possible that it is just a valve body problem, and that the tranny shifts into 4th immediately.
If the engine revs pretty freely, it is still possible that it is a blown govenor seal or a bad valve body. But unlikely. The valve body is easy to access, and the govenor seals can be done with the engine in the car.
But unfortunately, your failure is typical of stripped clutches. The autobox in the 9000 is usually good for 80-120K miles. The most likely solution is a rebuilt tranny. You can either find a good tranny shop that is very familiar with the ZF box, or contact Erikkson Industries.
