TCS was cutting edge early 90s technology that wasn't worth it. That said:

I have two 9Ks w/TCS, a 92 turbo and a 93 CSE. The 92 TCS has never been a problem (178K miles). The 93 CSE has had TCS/CTRL (and LHM) issues (at 225,000 miles). I changed all the vacuum lines (they were terrible), and the safety switch (~$170) on the firewall. This took care of all the non/recoverable LHM incidences (by which I mean restarting car did not clear problem).

The car still entered LHM, but only about once or twice per day (too much!!), but the problem cleared with a off/on ignition. I would literally turn the car off while doing 60 mph, wait 5 seconds, then restart, all would be well.

I eventually took the car to SAAB for a scan. I was told computer complained that the throttle body was defective, ECU (computer) was bad, and ABS inlet valve was bad. Total cost of repair would be in excess of $3000, which we did not do. Instead, mechanic cleared all codes. He told me that the ABS complaint was probably old and/or rare and intermittent (I had to replace a wheel speed sensor, that may have confused the computers). I was told that the fault detection system remembers past one-time errors, and with these in memory the ECU is extra paranoid. With the ABS code cleared, might never see TCS/CTRL again.

Its been ~1000 miles since, haven't seen TSC/CTRL, no LHM incidences.

Would I buy an Aero with TCS? If I had choice, Aero with, Aero without, I'd go without. But, for perspective, if I had a choice of Aero w/TCS + 5 speed vs. Aero w/o TCS + automatic, I'd get the one with the 5 speed tranmission.
