How much for the car?
I thought that the TCS could be switched off in later models that featured it. I have a '93 and drove more than 1000 miles in limp home mode with a TCS light before I was able to fix the problem (saving $1100 from the dealer quote to fix it).
TCS problems are very tricky to troubleshoot. Tricky problems exact an emotional toll for me. I can't really enjoy a car the same way after it has had some problem that was REALLY tough to solve, at least for a long time afterward. I LOVE to drive, so I don't want to be worrying that some bitch of a problem may recur. This happened with a VW Rabbit that had a fuse box that went bad. How can a fuse box go bad? There are no electronics in there! On the other hand, I've owned several Hondas in my life that represent the other end of the spectrum. They never had the feel or finish of my Saab, but I never had a worry about trouble. Somewhere there is a happy medium. If so, it's more likely a Saab without TCS. Some may not like the idea, but I like the concept of a Subaru WRX engine in a Saab. If I had the dough, I'd probably be getting a Lotus with a Toyota engine. As it is, I'm just about to buy a Lotus with an Isuzu engine. Performance WITH reliability!
