Alright, so I have had a problem with the ACC for incredibly long. It only blows air that seems like it is coming straight off the engine block. Have had the this repaired several times and I will now be fixing it myself because I don't trust the local dealer. This is probably tangential but I cant help but think the excess heat in the cabin could have had an effect here... Regardless, I have been avoiding the problem (something saabs rarely seem to let you do) until my 4 hour drive up to NY today. The heat was cranking out of the vents and I had the sunrood open to let the heat out. Also, I was using the cruise control. About 2 hours into the trip a faint trail of white-grey smoke emerged from what seemed to be the steering column followed by a very odd burning smell. I pulled over, turned off the cruise, and radio so the only electrical running were the dash gauges. Turned the car off did some roadside inspection and found nothing amiss. I avoided the cruise for a while and eventually decided to turn the radio back on with no problems. Later in the trip I had the radio off and decided to test the cruise again. No smoke this time but I did get the burning smell again. Throughout this ordeal, the cruise worked flawlessly, all functions working as they should. I am perplexed as to what could have been the problem, how dire it is/could be, and how repairable it might be.
