Hello everyone!

After several days of torture and swapping parts around, we finally figured out what was causing the no start condition on my friend 1992 9kt w/ the dreaded TCS system...

The original symptom was the car would seem like it wanted to start, had fuel, had spark, but would die out as fast as it started.

It was explained to me that a malfuntioning TCS system hinders the automatic idle control... so we swapped the TCS control module under the seat with another box from a second 1992 9kt...

The replacement box has a slightly different part number on it, and at first we were apprehensive about starting the car with it, but we went ahead and did it anywyas...

The car started, and idles... however it doesn't sound like it's particularly happy about having a different box in it than what it was designed with.

But just to make sure this wasn't a crazy coincidence, we switched back to the original box, and sure enought the car wouldn't start again.

So we've found the problem, but we have a few questions...

What is the difference between these 2 boxes?

The part numbers are

43 00 539 - which is the box that is broken, the original box

and the other box, also from a 92 which is 41 59 182

Each of these TCS brains were SOLO under the driver seat, there was no sign of a second box, which some people say there are two boxes under the seat related to TCS.

Both of these cars are manual of course....

Will the second box work well enough for us to move the car somehwere else? Or is moving it with the wrong box a bad idea, and i'm a stupid person for asking it? ;)

If we get a replacement computer, no matter the part number, do we have to go to a dealer in order to have something in the TCS system "RESET" ?

We have a almost brand new TB in the car, will it have to be reset also?
